Indeed. One of the nice things about film. Although I suppose you could replicate it (maybe) with some Mad Computer Skillz. Which I don't have. I got some prints from the lab yesterday and my wife commented on a photo made with Kodak Ultramax 400, saying "This looks like a painting. It looks very nice." This soft look (even when the subject is in focus and the picture is sharp) is why I've recently been thinking about using amateur films rather than professional. Ultramax seems to be the best of the cheap (ha-ha, none of it is cheap) films, though I am interesting in trying Kodak Pro Image 100 again.
I like this shot - there's a softness to it which suits the main subject.
